A custom timber home in the mountains of Colorado, where the great room wall of windows frames an entire mountain range and the design keeps pulling that view back into every space. The tour starts at the front door, a 42 inch wide, eight foot solid wood slab framed in Golden Eagle's hand hewn timber trim with black metal strapping, flanked by sidelights and transoms that pour light into a foyer 14 feet wide. The client wanted an open concept plan without losing a real entry, and the centrally located foyer is how they got both.

Inside, the great room is anchored by a 23 foot wide, 12 foot tall wall of natural cut stone with a smooth surface hearth running the full width of the chase, and by ten by ten hand hewn Doug fir trusses stained dark against a lighter tongue and groove ceiling. The truss placement is worth slowing down for: the bottom chord of the great room trusses lands on the top chord of the dining and kitchen trusses. The Pella picture units behind them are fixed glass in an eight inch thick wall, which leaves room for more insulation than a typical six inch wall and leaves the view uninterrupted. The kitchen runs two islands, one working and one two tiered for serving and gathering, a full Wolf appliance package, quartz that carries up into the backsplash, a concealed rollout tray on a lift mechanism, and a sliding pass through window to the patio.

From there the tour covers the caretaker suite with its own kitchenette, fireplace, and private balcony, two upstairs guest suites, the pantry behind an eight foot pocket door, a drop zone and a laundry room with more cabinetry than most kitchens, and a primary suite with a three sided fireplace, a sauna, two water closets, a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub in a curved stone surround, and a curbless walk in shower trimmed in black quartz. Four bedrooms, four and a half baths, 5,300 livable square feet, and four fireplaces in total.

Outside, more than 1,300 square feet of covered porch carries the same heated porcelain floor straight through from the interior, with a fourth stone fireplace chase nine feet wide and twelve feet tall, curved hammer beam trusses with threaded rod holding a clear span open, an outdoor kitchen in stainless and stone, and stone piers doing double duty as high top tables. The exterior details are the payoff: stepped fascia, slope soffits in tongue and groove, natural stone wainscoting over the exposed foundation, Diamond Kote above the sill stone, and hand hewn corners capped in hammered copper that ties back to the strapping on the front door.
